Intelligence Brief

The 'Day of Yahweh' (yom Yahweh) is the central concept of prophetic eschatology. Israel expected it as victory over their enemies. The prophets — Amos first, then Joel, Isaiah, Zephaniah — revealed it would also mean judgment on Israel itself. It is not a 24-hour period but a decisive divine intervention. Zephaniah's description (vv. 14-18) is the most concentrated Day of Yahweh passage in scripture. The scarlet thread: every prophetic Day of Yahweh points forward to the final Day — the return of Christ, when he comes not as suffering servant but as conquering king.
