Intelligence Brief

Bible Dictionary: Hebrew 'yir'at YHWH' — reverence, awe, the proper posture before the holy God. This is the 'beginning of wisdom' (Prov 9:10), the starting point without which no true knowledge is possible. It includes moral hatred of what God hates. Historical Context: In a world of many gods, Israel's wisdom tradition insisted that right living begins with right worship — knowing who Yahweh is and responding appropriately. The fear of Yahweh is not cringing terror but the trembling joy of standing before infinite holiness. Scarlet Thread: Christ embodies the fear of Yahweh perfectly — 'the Spirit of the fear of the LORD' rests on him (Isa 11:2-3). In him we see what it looks like to live in perfect reverence before the Father. Through him we receive the Spirit who enables the same posture in us.
