Intelligence Brief
God's jealousy (qinah) is covenant language. He is Israel's husband (Hosea, Ezekiel 16), and their idolatry is adultery. His jealousy is not insecurity but fierce, exclusive love that will not share what belongs to him. The 'fire' of jealousy consumes rivals and purifies the beloved. 'The whole land devoured' — total judgment, no partial measures. Yet even here, Zephaniah 3 will reveal a remnant preserved through the fire. The scarlet thread: Christ is the jealous bridegroom (2 Corinthians 11:2) who gave himself for his bride. His jealousy is our security — he will not lose what he died to win.
