David selected five smooth stones from the brook — not rough, not large, not impressive looking. Smooth stones from a streambed have optimal aerodynamic properties for sling-launched projectiles: consistent mass distribution, minimal drag variation, predictable ballistic trajectory. The number five is not random margin — it's documented in 2 Samuel 21:18-22, which lists Goliath's four brothers, also giant Philistines, all of whom were later killed in battle by David's men. He loaded for all five. He needed one. The load-out reflects precision and preparation: not overconfident, not underequipped. The stone that hit was not lucky. The forehead is the one unarmored gap on a fully-equipped Philistine champion.
