Cherubim (Ezekiel 10:15, 20)

Intelligence Brief

Ezekiel later identifies these beings as cherubim (10:15, 20). In ancient Near Eastern iconography, cherubim were throne-guardians — hybrid creatures combining human, animal, and divine features. They guarded Eden's entrance (Genesis 3:24), overshadowed the ark (Exodus 25:18-22), and decorated Solomon's temple. Here they are mobile, bearing God's throne-chariot. The four faces (human, lion, ox, eagle) represent the highest forms of created life — humanity, wild beasts, domestic animals, birds. All creation serves the throne. In Revelation 4:6-8, similar beings surround the heavenly throne, crying 'Holy, holy, holy.'
