The Hebrew kavod means 'weight' or 'heaviness' — glory is not lightness but substance, the sheer reality of God's presence made visible. This glory filled the tabernacle (Exodus 40:34-35) and Solomon's temple (1 Kings 8:10-11). Ezekiel will watch this glory depart from the corrupted temple (chapters 10-11) and return to the eschatological temple (43:1-5). The glory that appears here in Babylon is the same glory that became flesh in Jesus Christ — 'we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father' (John 1:14). The kavod took on human nature.
