Christ counsels Laodicea to "buy from Me" gold refined by fire — true spiritual wealth with all impurities burned away. 1 Peter 1:7: "the tested genuineness of your faith — more precious than gold that perishes though tested by fire." The wealth cannot be purchased at Laodicea's banks — only from Christ, through the furnace of sanctification. The richest city told to buy what it lacks from the One it has marginalized.
