Bible Dictionary: 'Gam balaylah lo-shakav libbo' (even in the night his heart does not lie down) describes anxiety that follows into sleep. The Hebrew 'shakav' means to lie down, rest, sleep — the heart cannot do what the body does. This is the insomnia of the successful. Historical Context: Solomon had everything that should produce rest — wealth, security, wisdom, pleasure. Yet his heart found no rest. This is the paradox of earthly success: the more you have, the more you have to worry about. Achievement produces anxiety, not peace. Scarlet Thread: Jesus offers what Solomon's success could not provide: 'Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest' (Matthew 11:28). The rest Solomon sought in achievement, Christ offers freely to those who come to Him. His yoke is easy; His burden is light.
