Hinge between problem (ch.7) and solution (ch.8)
Intelligence Brief
After the anguished cry of verse 24, Paul erupts in thanksgiving. The question was 'who will deliver me?' The answer is not 'what' (a method, a technique, more effort) but 'who' — Jesus Christ our Lord. The deliverance is personal, not procedural. Paul thanks God 'through' (dia) Jesus Christ — Christ is the mediator, the means, the channel of rescue. This is the hinge of the entire argument: chapters 1-7 have established the problem (sin, death, law's inability to save); chapter 8 will unfold the solution (life in the Spirit through Christ). The scarlet thread is explicit and central: Jesus Christ is the deliverer. His death breaks sin's power; his resurrection guarantees life; his Spirit enables what the law could not produce.
