The Greek 'pneumatikos' (spiritual) indicates the law's divine origin and nature. It comes from God, reflects his character, and addresses the deepest realities of human existence. The contrast is with Paul himself: the law is spiritual, but 'I am fleshly' (sarkinos). The law operates on a plane that fallen humanity cannot reach. It demands what the flesh cannot deliver. This is not the law's failure but humanity's. Historical context: Jewish tradition affirmed Torah's heavenly origin — it existed before creation, was given through angels, reflects divine wisdom. Paul agrees with all of this. The problem is the recipient, not the gift. The scarlet thread: Christ is the only 'spiritual' human — fully aligned with the Spirit. He alone could fulfill what the spiritual law demanded.
