When God swears, He swears by Himself because there is nothing greater (Hebrews 6:13). Here He swears by 'the pride of Jacob' — a phrase with deliberate ambiguity. It could mean Israel's arrogance (which God hates, Amos 6:8) or Israel's glory/excellence (their covenant status). Either way, God stakes His oath on what Israel values most about themselves. If they pride themselves on election, that very election guarantees judgment for covenant violation. If they pride themselves on wealth and power, that pride becomes the witness against them. The oath is unbreakable. No scarlet thread is forced here — this is covenant lawsuit language, God as prosecutor swearing the verdict will stand.
