Decanting separates wine from sediment
Intelligence Brief
In winemaking, wine must be poured from vessel to vessel to separate it from the sediment (dregs/lees). Wine left too long on its dregs thickens, loses clarity, spoils. Jeremiah uses the same image (48:11). These are people who have never been disturbed, never poured out, never tested. Their theology matches their condition: 'Yahweh will not do good, neither will he do evil' — functional deism, a god who exists but does not act. This is not atheism but something worse: belief in an irrelevant god.
