Intelligence Brief

In prophetic literature, the north is the direction of threat — Babylon, Assyria, and all invaders came from the north (Jeremiah 1:14, 4:6). But the north is also the mythological location of the divine mountain (Isaiah 14:13, Psalm 48:2). When Ezekiel sees the storm approaching from the north, both meanings collide: the God who sent Babylon as judgment now arrives himself. The storm-theophany echoes Sinai (Exodus 19:16-18) — cloud, fire, lightning. God is coming, and his approach shakes the cosmos.
