Bible Dictionary: The Hebrew 'shaqat' means to be quiet, to rest, to be inactive. Naomi declares that Boaz will not rest — he will not be still, will not delay — until the matter is settled. This is character testimony: Naomi knows Boaz as a man who finishes what he starts, especially when covenant obligation is involved. Historical Context: Legal matters in ancient Israel were settled at the city gate when elders gathered. Boaz would need to find the nearer kinsman, assemble witnesses, and conduct the transaction publicly. Naomi's confidence suggests this will happen at first opportunity — that very morning. Her counsel to Ruth is simply: wait. The redeemer is already moving. Scarlet Thread: The urgency of the redeemer mirrors Christ's determination to complete His saving work. Jesus said, 'I must work the works of him who sent me while it is day' (John 9:4). On the cross He declared 'It is finished' (John 19:30) — the redemption complete, nothing left undone. Our Redeemer does not rest until the work is accomplished.
