Seven golden lampstands positioned in a circle, and the Risen Christ walking among them. In the Old Testament the lampstand (menorah) stood in the tabernacle and temple — the presence of God among his people. Here the lampstands are the churches themselves. The light they carry is not their own. They hold it. The question the letters will ask is whether each station is still burning.
