Intelligence Brief
The tree of life first appears in Eden (Genesis 2:9), offering eternal life to those who eat. After the Fall, humanity was barred from it by cherubim and flaming sword (Genesis 3:24) — access to immortality was revoked. Proverbs applies this loaded image to wisdom: she 'is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her.' This is not casual metaphor but deliberate Eden vocabulary. Wisdom offers a path back toward what was lost. The tree reappears in Revelation 22:2, standing in the New Jerusalem, its leaves 'for the healing of the nations.' Christ, who is wisdom embodied, is also the way back to the tree — through His cross (itself a tree), access is restored.
