The shofar (ram's horn trumpet) served multiple functions: calling assemblies, announcing festivals, and warning of attack. The teruah was the specific alarm blast — short, sharp, urgent. Together they meant: the enemy is here. Against 'fortified cities and high battlements' — the very defenses Judah trusted — the trumpet sounds. No wall is high enough. The scarlet thread runs to the final trumpet: 'For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God' (1 Thessalonians 4:16). That trumpet brings resurrection, not destruction, for those in Christ.
