Dan was the northernmost city of Israel, at the foot of Mount Hermon near the headwaters of the Jordan. Jeroboam I placed one of his two golden calves here (the other at Bethel in the south), creating a rival worship system to Jerusalem. The phrase 'your god, Dan' is devastating — they have localized deity, reduced Yahweh to a regional god, or replaced Him entirely. Swearing 'as your god lives' mimics legitimate oath formulas ('as Yahweh lives') but directs them to an idol. The calf cannot live, cannot hear, cannot enforce oaths. The scarlet thread: Christ is the living God who hears, who keeps covenant, who is not confined to any location (John 4:21-24).
