BOOK DOSSIER: 2 PETER
Testament: NT | Chapters: 3 | Status: 0% DECLASSIFIED
Three chapters of PETER's farewell intelligence brief — written with execution on the horizon. False teachers are the primary threat: they deny the Master who bought them, exploit believers with fabricated stories, and promise freedom while being slaves to corruption. Peter's response: grow in knowledge, remember the apostolic eyewitness testimony (he was on the mountain at the Transfiguration), and trust that the prophetic word is certain. Chapter 3 addresses the delay of Christ's return — 'The Lord is not slow as some count slowness' — and promises a cosmic renovation: new heavens and a new earth. Peter's last written words are a command to grow in grace. The fisherman's final cast.
Scarlet Thread
2 Peter 1:16-17 — 'We were eyewitnesses of his majesty... "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased."' Peter files his testimony on direct observation — the Transfiguration, where the glory the cross would temporarily conceal was displayed in advance. He saw the commanding officer before the mission went dark. The preview preceded the operation.
